Hi all,
Vikas had shared about mail2forum at See
http://bugs.hamaralinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120
I have no idea which version of phpBB we are using. Probably we would
be using phpBB3.0.x or 3.1 as there has been lot of bug-fixes and
features that have gone in. phpbb3 was released in 2007 (almost 8 years
now), just realized.
The latest release is of the software is of 'alpha quality' see
http://sourceforge.net/projects/m2f/files/m2f/2.0.0a5/ and looks old.
There are couple of versions floating around on github with the same
name which are nothing but dumps of the cvs code. This is sadly out of
tune as it is based on phpbb2 and not phpbb3.
Why was I thinking about it is expressed best by a certain omarf in the
phpbb Area 51 forum itself :-
http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=43857&sid=818ace95b0241a891b63056bbe5fe364&start=30#p252551
please read that post in its entirety.
So if we want we could skin the cat in number of ways :-
a. Understand phpBB internals and hack on the m2f code-base and make it
compatible with our phpbb installation and mail server (postfix or
whatever else that is being used) - probably a somewhat 3-6 months
project either for in-house or get it on github/gitlab instance .
b. Dump or convert from the current data from phpbb to phorum. They
apparently have got both the modules working

http://www.phorum.org/phorum5/read.php?62,129244,140394
The only problem with phorum is that it uses MySQL which many devs.
don't like for one reason or other .
c. Use something like nabble , see http://forum.openscad.org/ as an
example. The only problem is this works best when you have a single
target audience.
And finally this
https://github.com/DavidIQ/phpBB-MailingList
(looks promising a lot) but needs phpBB 3.1.3-RC1 and up. This would
require the newest phpbb3.1 . I do not know which version of phpBB we
have installed but if this works would be cool for us.
Look forward to reply.
