Dear Raju,
Just saw
http://ftp.acc.umu.se/Public/debian-meetings/2015/debconf15/Debian_Installer_Jessie_Stretch.webm
It took me quite sometime to download the video but was definitely worth
it.
This is straight from debconf.
Wow. The talk was basically an insight as to what are some of the things
which are part of d-i.
What I would suggest is to have make a list of all the features that he
has shared about d-i and compare it to calamares .
The other thing which you will note is that there are quite a few
developers who commit and test d-i with every release.
Also, as shared recently by Cyril Brulebois, I shared his bits from d-i
manager bit just a few days ago, he is planning to be much more active
and that has been seen from the last couple of releases.
I specially liked his point of the Punjabi font and taking Vasudev
Kamath's name, our own DD from Bangalore.
Apart from the user-friendliness, the other thing you need to figure out
is are there any outside contributors. I had a look at the forked
repository you shared and there is only one guy who is committing to it,
ximion. I do think I know the developer as well but that doesn't really
matter in this.
I would suggest really taking a look at all the pros and cons instead of
jumping it just because it looks great which I admit it does.
What I would suggest rather is to join the debian-installer and fork
that repo. and make better themes .
If you need any help in either getting on the team let me know and I
would send your name and credentials to him.
What they do is usually give some small tasks to you for d-i bits, and
ask you to code and upload it to some repo. either inside Alioth if you
have an account there or on github or wherever you feel comfortable.
