[Hamara-devel] We have moved from GNOME to MATE right ?

Hi all,

Just inquiring. We have moved from GNOME to MATE or is GNOME going to be
one for the desktop managers ?

Also if we are using GNOME, would it be GNOME shell or GNOME flashback ?

Also which version, as Jessie was primarily GNOME 3.8 IIRC

I tried looking through the release notes but because even the English
version has some stupid Russian fonts, glyphs etc. reported that

bugs.debian.org/796895

and used the Debian BTS to find which version is in stable.

I tracked gnome-panel as that is usually a good parameter to figure out
which version of GNOME is happening.

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/gnome-panel

And as can be seen GNOME is 3.8 and if we are using GNOME 3.16 (which
will be in stretch unless 3.18 releases in time and people do the
updates at a faster rate than so far) then need to know that.

Now just so that people do not think I have lost my senses, I was just
looking at the hamara wiki and saw :-

https://wiki.hamaralinux.org/wiki/index.php/Documentation

Suggestion - We should be specific to what versions we are
giving/sharing with people, would be good for us as well as versioning
as we all know is all-important (god :) )

Hopefully somebody can share which desktop managers and window managers
would be used for stretch .

Would we be using lightdm and gdm3 or only lightdm or some other display
managers as well ?

Same is the case with desktop managers as well.

Are we going to have MATE, GNOME, GNOME Flashback and something else as
well or what ?

It would be nice if we put a roadmap, maybe on the wiki ?

What do people think ?

Also should we set some sort of rough timelines to it ?

Look forward to what people think.
