Hey Everyone,
I installed Hamara Sugam on my Netbook a day before yesterday. I am
sharing here some of my observations and some Questions as well.
We will be having Sugam for lower end hardware, and I think my netbook
fits at the right place.
To begin with, the required brief specifications of my netbook.
Model: Samsung N150-JP0GIN
Make: 2010
Processor: Intel atom N550 Dual core (1.5 Ghz)
Ram: 2Gb
Screen Size: 10.1 Inches
My experience with the Installation.
1. I Installed using a bootable Pendrive. The Installation went smooth
and completed in around 10 minutes. I usually have my operating systems
localized in Marathi as that Is also one of our goals to bring Hamara to
more people who dont know English or are not well versed with It. I even
do the Installation in Marathi. What I observed is that the timezone
selection screen during the Installation was set to India by default as
the Installation language was selected as Mr-India. I have reported a
bug #100 [1] around a month before with the Hamara Linux product about
Default timezone selection in Hamara Linux Installation. If you have
taken a look over that bug before. We can conclude that the timezone
settings are dependent on the Language selected during the Install. So
the bug#100 might be solved by changing the default language for
Installation to en-IN from en-US.
2. Another issue is bug#68 [2] which I reported back in February for
Hamara Linux and has been marked as resolved, is still existing with
Hamara Sugam. Should I report a separate bug for this on Hamara Sugam or
should we reopen the resolved bug?
For the people who have not seen the bug before. It is about the
Improper alignment of text in Ubiquity Installer slide shows.
About the post Installation experience.
1. And the blue Grub screen is there as well. I don't know about others
but blue screen reminds me of the Blue screen of death on Windows. I
reported the bug#95 [3] for Hamara Linux and it is being worked upon.
Again the same question should I report a separate bug for it with
Hamara Sugam?
2. The Splash screen while starting the OS is similar to the ubuntu
splash screen, just replacing the ubuntu logo with the hamara logo.
Everything else is same. Even the brown color of the splash screen is
present. We should do some work here to make the splash screen more
unique to us.
3. The login screen design. Who ever did it, kudos to him/her. It was
just awesomely done. The choice of colors and design was just perfect.
4. And when I am on to the Desktop, everything just looks perfectly
placed and well designed. It was running fast and smooth on my Netbook.
Like my netbook just got rejuvenated with speed.
5. The display controls and volume controls were not working. I can get
a work around for this. But hoping that It should work by default. It
didn't worked by default with ubuntu as well till Ubuntu till 11.10 .
After 12.04 everything worked out of the box.
I'll be reporting a bug for this. Although I can make it work, It should
work out of the box for the end user.
6. The LXDE panel was not having a battery indicator panel. I'll report
a bug for this as well.
Hoping your reply on above points. If you guys can share your
experiences with Hamara sugam till now, that would be great.
Raju
