Hi all,
Guess some of you might have seen the above advertisement. For those who
don't know, it is one of the reasons why in many schools there isn't
GNU/Linux distribution. They are infamous (in GNU/Linux circles at
least) for their desktop virtualization hardware/software combo and the
only version which works is Ubuntu 12.04 with it.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NComputing
To see the above is a sort of vindication as well as am bit of a suspect
as they have never played good with us before. They are a bit like
broadcom in many aspects.
If they were to bring out some drivers which would work with most
GNU/Linux distros it probably would enable many schools who have already
got Ncomputing systems installed at their premises.
On GNU/Linux side the only competing system I know is the LTSP project
and in-turn the diskless workstations as offered by Intel
http://www.disklessworkstations.com/thin-clients.html where there hasn't
been much progress and there is a dearth of info.
Hence the move to ARM-based solutions where information is not that
lacking and most vendors themselves fall over telling various recipes
how their products could be used in form of various use-cases.
