Gitlab follows a monthly release cycle. We plan to update our git server
frequently as and when an update gets released.

Switching to the gitlab package will require frequent updations in our 
package in repos, which will not get done in
short time frames.

Automating installations would be good for new installations, but 
disturbing an already working setup does not seem a good idea to me.
