I think this is meant for cases where there are multiple apps, like
GNOME Terminal and MATE Terminal or Firefox Web Browser and Chromium Web
Browser. The solution is to have generic names and full names in
.desktop files and show full name when there are multiple generic names
in the same menu. So if only Firefox is installed, it can just show Web
Browser and when both Firefox and Chromium are installed, it can show
Firefox Web Browser and Chromium Web Browser.
Since this is a useful thing in all distros, I suggest we push this as a
freedesktop.org standard.
