Hi all,

Just created wiki
page which contains list of default
applications to be included in sugam .

Lets discuss here about applications which should
be included as default desktop applications in
Sugam release. As per recent discussion here on
mailing list "pidgin" will be used as default XMPP
client.

I've added these categories:

Internet

Communication

Office / Productivity

Entertainment

Education

Games

Administration

No accessibility?

Good catch, there is now :)

may as well add accounting/ finance.
We have GNUKhata to start with and there is GNUCash for
personal books.
I can asure you that there is no distro wich such a section
to the best of my knowledge.
In addition GNUKhata is already on it's way to have
inventory.
So we can pitch Hamara as the true Indian distro with even
software for indian accounting system.

I am not sure if we should include this category in hamara
sugam - I think we should add this to the full blown hamara
release.

Once we get the sugam basics in order, we will open up
development on the next hamara release - but based on Debian
this time.

What do you think?

Not a bad idea.
By that time you will also have GNUKhata with Inventory.
Meanwhile we can always have people install GNUKhata on Sugam.
happy hacking.
What's the plan with having it packaged for Debian? That would
make is simple to pull into Sugam

GNUKhata is very stable and accountants have liked it a lot.
So one problem with packaging for Debian is that they will still put
in testing or unstable, which is a bad thing for GNUKhata given it's
stability.
Other than that I don't see any reason why it should not be packaged
for Debian or any distro for that matter.
May be we can do some PPA which users can add and then install in
Debian or even Hamara or Ubuntu etc.
But in any case it will be a good idea to package it for Debian.
Happy hacking.
